Periodontology

Periodontology

Periodontology is a part of dentistry that study the supportive tooth structures as well as diseases and conditions that affect them. Bearing in mind that periodontitis nowadays is the key factor in the loss of teeth, an early detection of the disease and a timely therapy are of crucial importance for a good and foreseeable therapy outcome. Most commonly it is necessary to perform a couple of preventive treatments, professional cleaning supragingival and subgingival regions, instruct the patients in the proper hygiene. The first symptoms are redness or bleeding of gums Redness or bleeding of gums, gum swelling, bad  breath, the presence of the dental plaque and concrements. In the later stages there is damaged supportive tooth strucure, the creation of bone defects and tooth loosening. Paradontopathy can be diagnosed in an early stage provided that there are regular examinations.

Treatment of periodontitis

Treatment of periodontitis

Sometimes it happens that the disease is diagnosed in an advanced stage with bone defects present, so called pockets, progressed gum recession, deteriorated tooth support and loosened teeth. In such cases surgical therapy is necessary. For that purpose we shall carry out all required consultations, examinations and x-ray analyses and determine which teeth are most endangered and what the prognosis is.

Bone augmentation and the use of resorptive membranes are modern methods for treating bone defects. Thus the teeth life span is prolonged and the further progress of periodontitis is prevented.

Crown lengthening

Crown lengthening

The regular proportions of the width and length of teeth for an ideal smile line are equally important as the harmony between the visible whiteness of teeth substance and pinkness of the soft tissue. Sometimes that balance can be disturbed so that one tooth, more or all of them may look short and the smile “full of gums”. Microsurgical intervention of the clinical crown lengthening is performed on several different ways depending on esthetic and functional requests. The purpose of the intervention is to release the visible whiteness of teeth and with the tooth length and adequate teeth proportions ensure that the smile has the necessary desired balance.
